Description | This project will provide the station with the ability to island the mobile maintenance facility using ground-mounted solar photovoltaic system, natural gas generator, battery storage, and a micro-grid controller at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, North Carolina. This project includes the design and construction of 2MW of ground-mounted solar photovoltaic systems, 1000kW/4MWH minimum battery storage systems, natural gas backup generation, switching and transfer ability and minor lighting upgrades. The project will provide a 2 MW ground-mounted solar photovoltaic system, plus 1 MW/4MWh minimum of battery storage and standby backup generation to ensure uninterrupted power for the mobile aviation maintenance facility Bldg. 1254 (a.k.a. "van pad"). Ancillary equipment will include power conditioning and control equipment to allow the van pad to operate in island mode. Minor lighting upgrades will also be made at the site to improve lighting quality and reduce energy consumption. The project will enable the facility to continue operations and keep aircraft mission-ready through prolonged disruptions in the commercial grid. Project benefits include: Energy resilience by allowing the Station to island the mission-critical aviation support facility. Cost avoidance by reducing lost productive labor hours associated with downtime caused by power outages at the van pad. Increase in aviation readiness by enabling 24/7 operations and reducing turnaround time for critical avionics and airframe maintenance, testing, calibration and repairs. Energy cost reduction via onsite generation and battery storage. Generation assets that can be leveraged to help black start the installation when the FY2019 ERCIP project P-505 is constructed. |
