Description

Construction of a five-span 724 foot long prestressed concrete girder bridge over the Colorado River between Laughlin, Nevada and Bullhead City, Arizona, a 3.5 mile two-lane approach roadway in Nevada from the Needles Highway to the Colorado River Bridge, a 0.2 mile approach roadway in Arizona from the western terminus of the Bullhead Parkway, west of SR 95, to the Colorado River Bridge. Improvements generally consist of the bridge structure, MSE retaining walls, barrier rails, guard rail, multi-use path, maintenance roads, plantmix bituminous paving, curb and gutter, drainage channels, reinforced concrete box culverts, storm drains, drop inlets, pavement markings, signing, lighting of the bridge and Arizona approach roadway, landscaping and aesthetic treatments, fencing, construction traffic control and other related items of work. The work includes the construction, maintenance and operation of a temporary work bridge to be used as a work platform for the construction of the permanent bridge structure, and the removal of the temporary work bridge upon completion of the permanent bridge structure. The work also includes the construction of a pond, a noise berm, a maintenance road, a fence and drainage improvements within the adjacent Colorado River Nature Center in Arizona, south of the Bullhead Parkway. Material excavated for the construction of the pond, shall be used as fill for the construction of the Arizona approach roadway. A borrow site is available for this project as a source of borrow embankment for the Nevada approach roadway. The borrow site is a dredged material stockpile located on a 10.8 acre parcel of land owned by Clark County in the southwest quadrant of the intersection of the Needles Highway and Marina Lagoon Drive. The borrow site is accessible from an unimproved driveway directly from the Needles Highway and is located between Marina Lagoon Drive and an un-named wash. The borrow site contains an estimated 234,000 cubic yards of material.
