Description | https://www.bizjournals.com/jacksonville/news/2023/12/27/tampa-new-berth-construction.html The Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission has approved a port project to relieve cargo congestion and create a dedicated berth for Titan America. Port Tampa Bay successfully applied for a standard work permit to construct Berth 218 to take pressure off Berth 219. Right now, cold storage products and building materials are moved through Berth 219 at the southern tip of Hookers Point. This will allow Titan America to move its product while another vessel is unloading cargo at Berth 219. The $19.5 million project is out to bid now, with responses due Jan. 11. It will go to the February 2024 port board meeting, and construction is scheduled to start in March 2024, according to a spokesperson. A project of this size usually takes around eight to nine months. The new berth will be created with steel sheet pile bulkhead, the interior of which will contain over 50,000 cubic yards of imported fill. Adverse effects are not expected on navigation or the environment; the location in question has already been dredged for large vessels. Titan America, a Virginia-based cement and building materials producer, currently moves 500,000 tons per year of product through Berth 219, according to a company spokesperson. Construction will occur right next to the current terminal and will also be adjacent to a 70,000-ton storage dome completed by Titan America earlier this year. That project cost is approximately $35 million. "[Berth 218] will further enhance the port's abilities to accommodate the increase in activities expected to due to ongoing economic growth," the port's application to the planning commission said. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ https://www.bizjournals.com/tampabay/news/2023/12/22/tampa-new-berth-construction.html The Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission has approved a port project to relieve cargo congestion and create a dedicated berth for Titan America.
