Highway 70 Bridge Waterline

Project will include removal of an approx. 104 ft. section of 6” dia. asbestos cement water main that is currently not in service which runs under the bridge and parallel to the creek along a washed out section of the bridge embankment. This line was part of a water main that teed off a 10-inch water main located on the south side of the US Highway 70 bridge (see Figure 1a). The 10-inch water main is currently in service on the south side of the bridge. At this location a new 10” X 6” Tee and concrete thrust block will be required, along with three associated gate valves. An additional gate valve is to be installed on the north side of the bridge where the new 6” waterline is joined to the existing pipe. The project work, as performed by the contractor, shall be installation of pipe into existing “good” pipe. The area has suffered from erosion. A site visit is recommended before placing a bid as material will need to be added to the area to properly bed the pipe. By nature of the location, some hand excavation may be necessary. Price for material and bedding to be included in bid. The fill for cover will be compacted in 6” lifts free of debris. Associated work shall include temporary trench, temporary access, erosion control area (particularly along ditch, and ground surface restoration.
