Description

Site work for a water / sewer project in Williamsburg, Virginia. Conceptual plans call for site work for a water / sewer project. The City has an operation and maintenance permit for Waller Mill Dam from the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Due to new regulations, the dam went from a low hazard to a high hazard classification. This new designation may require a substantial amount of work be completed at the dam. Using new rainfall criteria required by the State, our engineering firm did a study of the dam's capability to handle a worst-case rainfall event. Results of the study indicated that the earthen dam would overtop. This means that the City may be required to widen the spillway or raise the dam with structural material. The City has a permit from the State conditioned upon improvements being made to the dam. Money was budgeted in FY21 for engineering work to review the latest State requirements ano determine options to protect the dam. Estimated budget figures are shown in FY23 and FY24 for construction of anticipated improvements. As of July 12, 2022, this project is currently in the FY 2023-2027 CIP . Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction Fy 2023. A firm timeline has not been established; however, construction is scheduled for Fiscal Year 2024. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
