Description | 1)Conduct a visual inspection of the DA tank to ascertain the mechanical and operation integrity of the DA tank, to include, but not limited to: a. Review local operational and maintenance practices relevant to the DA tank b. Review the condition of interior components to include the integrity of internal attachment welds. c. Review the condition of supporting equipment for the DA tank to include piping, insulation, external supports, instrumentation/controls, etc. 2) Conduct non-destructive testing of the DA tank using wet fluorescent magnetic particle testing (WFMT), ultrasonic testing and other appropriate testing methods. Tests shall include, but not be limited to: a. Examining all accessible internal welds for indications of relevant surface discontinuities. b. Examining circumferential and longitudinal areas of the DA tank, as well as nozzle penetrations, as well as internal surfaces opposite externally welded attachments. c. Documenting the material thickness of the tank shell and heads. d. Quantifying areas of isolated thinning. e. Evaluating the depth of weld discontinuities identified by WFMT. f. Testing shall include related activities for final surface preparation of contact surfaces. Removal of nominal surface deposits shall be provided by means of power wire brushing and/or light surface grinding. g. Personnel conducting the testing shall be qualified a minimum Level II Ultrasonic Tester and be certified in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A. A qualified inspector shall evaluate the test results. Submit qualification information with the bid. h. The contractor shall meet daily with the Sheridan VAMC boiler plant supervisor during the testing to review progress, discuss results and recommendations, and raise any issues or concerns. |
