Description

This project will provide funding for road and bridge projects throughout Spartanburg County. Spartanburg County owns and maintains a relatively robust roadway infrastructure network that currently includes 162 bridges, 35 miles of unpaved gravel roads, and approximately 1,697 centerline miles of asphalt-paved roadways and associated storm water conveyance systems (culverts, catch basins, roadside ditches, etc.). The County is currently experiencing rapid growth in the form of larger industrial parks, residential developments, schools, etc. Many of these projects are located on or are shifting the traveling public onto infrastructure that was not intended for larger vehicles (school buses, semi-trailer trucks, etc.) and relatively high volumes of traffic. Funding will be used for right-of-way acquisition, engineering/design services, and construction as well as for repair and replacement of bridges and large culverts on County-owned roads. These projects ensure safer roadways for motorists. As we approach the conclusion of the construction of building projects, likely during FY 2023/24, remaining funds available from the Capital Penny Sales Tax will be allocated to specific road projects as approved by Council. This project directly supports Council's strategic vision by being a core component of the County's infrastructure plan. The project also improves services provided to citizens by upgrading a roadway in a highly traveled corridor of the County This project is in included in the Spartanburg County FY 2023-2027 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). As of august 24, 2022, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
