Description | Phase 1: The inshore project is part of ongoing oyster restoration work at Swan Island Oyster Sanctuary, located near the mouth of Neuse River at 35° 05.746' N, 76° 27.127' W. The site is located approximately 2 nautical miles north of Point of Marsh and has an average depth of 12 feet. Materials for this project will be Class B limestone rip rap. NCDMF is purchasing approximately 10,000 tons of material, which will be delivered to the NCDMF South River Facility. This is approximately 13nm from the reef site. The reef will be constructed in ridges, with the deployment vessel required to hold position precisely while materials are offloaded. Phase 2: Construction will occur at three offshore reef projects in 2020. Two reefs are located approximately 8 miles offshore of Ocracoke and one reef is approximately 15 miles offshore of Topsail. Materials for these projects are located at NCDMF’s South River Facility. Materials for this project include approximately 700 large concrete reef balls, large concrete pipe, and other miscellaneous concrete structures. NCDMF anticipates at least one barge load of concrete materials to each site. Additional loads will be dependent on material acquisition and deployment costs. |
