Description | Funds will be used in FY 2 021-22 for Playa Lake 054 (Blue Sky Lake) Lateral Connection design, plans, specifications, and construction estimates for the extension of a lateral connecting Lake 054 to the trunk line installed with the Northwest Drainage Improvement Projects. Start Date Design: 12/1/2 021 Bid for Construction: 1 0/1/2 023 Completion of Project: 9/3 0/2 024 Project Justification Lake 054 is a non-overflow playa located at the southern edge of the Arnett Benson neighborhood between System C and System D of the City of Lubbock playa lakes. With increased development in the watershed and the focus of providing flood protection for Arnett Benson through the Northwest Lubbock Drainage Improvements Projects, the feasibility analysis determined that a lateral for Lake 054 is feasible to restore capacity to the playa between storm events. The areas have been historically flood prone, affecting residential and commercial structures. Numerous studies conducted since the early 199 0s evaluated possibilities for reducing the flood risks in the area. Results of the Maxey Park Feasibility Study were presented to the City Council in January 2 005 and prompted the Northwest Lubbock and Maxey Park Study, which was completed in 2 008. Design, plans, specifications, and construction estimates for the construction of storm water infrastructure from Maxey Park to the Canyon Lakes, as well as upstream detention to relieve some flooding risks to homes along Quaker Avenue between 5 0th Street and 34th Street. Feasibility of adding the Lake 054 lateral was evaluated during the design of Phase 3 improvements in 2 019. This project is in included in the City of Lubbock 2021-2026 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). As of September 27, 2023, further details regarding have not been identified. A tentative bid schedule for contractors is scheduled for Fall 2023 with construction slated to begin first quarter of 2024; however, the firm timeline has not been released. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
