Description | Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC), a public community college based in Clarkston, Georgia. is part of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and provides education for a three-county service area, mostly in the metro Atlanta area. The school's service area includes Dekalb, Rockdale, and Newton Counties. GPTC intends to create a new Regional Transportation Training Center on their Marbut Road campus located at in Lithonia Georgia. The project will include the construction of a new facility referred to as Building A and the renovation of an existing facility referred to as Building B and described in more detail below. The project will include a new single story structure at the Georgia Piedmont Technical College's Regional Transportation Training Center referred to as Building A. The new structure will be a 17,754sf classroom building with classrooms, computer labs, employee work areas, employee offices, a conference room, restrooms, a student lounge, a vehicle shop with three vehicle bays, and storage. Exterior improvements include adding a parking lot with 52 parking spaces, new landscaping, new site utilities, new site signage, a dumpster enclosure, and safety improvements to sidewalks. The project will also include the renovation of an existing 4,000 sf structure on the campus referred to as Building B. Center. The existing building will include a change of use from a vehicular shop to a classroom building with admin offices. Exterior improvements include new grading at exterior doors and safety improvements to sidewalks. All demolition work associated with the renovation will need to be performed with care and diligence to prevent destruction or interruption of concealed service utilities intended to remain in use. All components of the exiting construction that would interfere with the installation of new work shall be demolished. All demolition work shall comply with the requirements of 2019 NFPA 241 Standard for Safeguarding Construction, Alterations, and Demolition Operations. The delivery method for this Project will be design-bid-build. The Owner has employed the services of a Design Professional and a Commissioning Agent. The Project construction cost is estimated to be in the range of $8,000,000. It is anticipated that construction will begin in June 2023. The duration to reach material completion of the project is estimated as 330 days from the date specified in the proceed order.
