Description | **Prequalifications will be accepted until 5:00 PM on Wednesday, December 14, 2022** The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company has been selected by The University of Maryland, College Park Department of Procurement and Strategic Sourcing to provide full design-build services for the Communication Arts & Humanities Building project on the Bowie State University campus in Bowie, MD. We invite trade subcontractors to submit prequalifications to participate in pursuing the subcontractor trade packages listed below. Bid Package Description 02B Fitness Equipment Relocation 10B Signage 11E Catering Kitchen Equipment 11G Theatrical Lighting Fixtures & Accessories 12D Trash Cans & Other General Equipment 26C Portable Studio Lighting Equipment 27B Data Communications Network Equipment 28B AV System The Communication Arts & Humanities (CAH) project is for the design and construction of an approximately 200,000 GSF new replacement building for the Martin Luther King Center on the campus of Bowie State University. The project will consolidate the University's interdisciplinary programs to accommodate the needs of four units: Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC), Communications (COMM), History and Government (HGOV), Language, Literature, and Cultural Studies (LLCS) formerly known as English and Modern Languages. The project is being designed to meet a minimum of LEED Silver certification. The instructional spaces to be provided comprise general education (active learning) classrooms and collaborative informal student study space. The specialized class laboratories include audio/ video editing and demonstration spaces for media production, broadcast/print journalism, public relations, language, literacy and writing as well as history, government, and geographic information systems laboratories. The building will also house the administrative functions of each of the departments with general support space and amenities. The CAH includes: Flexible and collaborative learning environments, specialized class laboratories, student support spaces, large 1,500 seat auditorium / lecture hall, administrative space to support interdisciplinary faculty, professional media production facilities for BSU TV Channel 74, WBSU Radio, and the Spectrum Newspaper / Journalism. This project has a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) participation goal of thirty percent (30%) with subgoals of seven percent (7%) African American-Owned, four percent (4%) Asian American-Owned, two percent (2%) Hispanic American-Owned, and nine percent (9%) Women-Owned businesses. All MBE subcontractors and suppliers must be certified by the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) in order for contract dollars to be counted toward project goals. |
