Description

General Work Requirements: Building 1320 provides office and laboratory space for the sensor and SONAR research & development program for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), Newport, RI. The intention of this project is to construct a new 6,000 square foot, two-story addition at the northeast corner of Building 1320. The addition must be aesthetically consistent with the existing architectural features of the original building. This addition will be structurally independent and provide a watertight, temperature controlled work area comprised of a high-bay laboratory space on the first floor and combination office/laboratory space on the second floor. Project shall add 3,000 SF on the first floor and 3,000 SF on the second floor, totaling 6,000 SF additional workspace to the existing 200,000 SF building. A proposed concept for the new laboratory addition will be included with Solicitation Background: Building 1320 was originally constructed as MILCON project P-020S in 1994. It is a five-story building comprised of office and laboratory space. It was built using steel framing over concrete spread footings, composite metal floor decking with concrete fill, EPDM membrane roof system over metal decking, and a 20ft wide tapered metal roof around the perimeter. The perimeter walls consist of an exterior brick veneer with a cold-formed light gage metal stud back up wall system. The walls have punched windows and strip windows as well as aluminum curtain wall at the north and south main entrances. The building is completely sprinklered.
