Description

Demolition and renovation of a retail development in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Working plans call for the renovation of a one-story above grade retail development. https://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2022/07/14/walmart-remodel-stores-investment-shopping-grocery.html Walmart's rapidly growing digital business is behind plans to invest an estimated $150 million in Wisconsin in 2022 to update and remodel 28 stores, including 10 in southeast Wisconsin. The 10 area stores set to receive renovations are in Kenosha, Lake Geneva, Milwaukee, West Bend, Sturtevant, Delavan, Pewaukee, New Berlin and Hartford, according to a press release. The statewide remodels largely focus on creating more space to fulfill the online pickup and delivery orders that accelerated during the pandemic, said Shane Bourk, regional vice president of Walmart's region 53, which includes all of Wisconsin. "We've seen an increase in digital activity as we've gone through the pandemic," Bourk said. "We're carving out some space to ensure that we have the space to grow and to cater to this rapidly growing digital business." Many of the remodeled stores will add pickup, delivery and express two-hour delivery options, which will make the Walmart+ membership program available to more customers in the region, according to the release. Walmart+ offers customers free shipping and delivery benefits in addition to discounted fuel products. Customers can use Walmart's pickup option for groceries, the release said. Walmart held the second-largest market share in the Milwaukee-area grocery market in April with $1 billion in local grocery sales. Some stores will see a "front end transformation" with self-checkout lanes, more manned registers and a touch-free way to pay for items, the release said. Other improvements include remodeled bathrooms and new fixtures, LED lighting and flooring. Bourk added that the investment will help modernize local stores to improve the customer experience. The remodeling process will also tailor certain product assortments to local demographics, like adding water sports items to the Lake Geneva store. "We want to make sure that we are modern, that we are contemporary-looking and really giving the customer a great shopping experience, whether that shopping experience is in the physical or digital space," Bourk said. Renovations at some of the Milwaukee-area stores have already been completed. The Delavan, Lake Geneva and Hartford supercenters held their celebratory reopenings in June, according to a press release. All three locations moved their online grocery pickup to more convenient locations and added additional self-checkout options, while the Lake Geneva and Hartford locations installed a "Grab & Go" lunch station at the front of their stores. Bourk said the remodels usually take 12 to 16 weeks to complete and remain fully functional during the process. The Milwaukee store at 3355 S. 27th St. undergoing a remodel is expected to be completed this summer, while the other Milwaukee store at 401 E. Capitol Drive is scheduled to be done in fall. ____________________ *Absolutely no inquiries will be accepted at this time.
