Description | Project Information: This project is located at Zoar Levee, in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. The levee surrounds the Village of Zoar, which is a National Historic Landmark. Zoar Levee is an appurtenance to Dover Dam, located upstream of the Dam on the Tuscarawas River. Dover Dam is a “dry” dam and retains pools only during storm events. Zoar Levee is founded on pervious, glacial outwash soils, which has led to this and previous seepage related remediation work completed since the levee’s construction in 1937. The proposed modification work for this project will consist of the following major features, located within the interior side of the levee: - Installation of approximately 2,000 linear feet of internal erosion interceptor trench (IEIT) with minimum 2 foot width and average 25 foot depth; IEIT construction method and backfill shall be contractor designed but meeting a minimum 300 pounds per square inch unconfined compressive strength at 28 days, as demonstrated by quality control testing. - Install a granular seepage berm in the reach of the IEIT along the interior toe of the levee; approximate height and length of the berm are 5-10 feet and 50-100 feet, respectively. - Extend existing manholes (27 total) to the surface of the proposed berm and extend existing relief well outflow pipes (11 total) laterally through the berm. - Vibration monitoring during construction as well as pre and post-construction structural assessments of village structures (~50 total) is required. - Construction work limits, hours, and access, as well as ground vibrations, will be restricted at the site. - Dispose of excess soils in a nearby onsite disposal area. |
