Description

Project Description Eagle Lake Carriage Road is a historic broken stone road located along Eagle Lake, which is one of the most pristine bodies of water in the Northeast, and supplies drinking water to the town of Bar Harbor, ME. The project activity must avoid any impact to the lake and water quality. The original middle and surface layer of the Eagle Lake Road and associated drainage structures have deteriorated. The foundation stones of the broken stone road have generally retained their structure and configuration and shall remain undisturbed. The project will rehabilitate 6 miles of the historic, crushed stone, Eagle Lake Carriage Road. The work will reclaim, regrade, and compact the existing aggregate surface and 8” middle – base course of the Eagle Lake Carriage Road to 16 feet wide and re-establish the road crown, shoulders, and ditches, while protecting the existing stone foundation course to remain undisturbed. Use only Type A for aggregate base course. Reset coping stones at edge of road that have been disturbed or shifted from their original position. Re-grade existing earth ditches. Stabilize a 200 foot section of rock slide adjacent to the road. Remove and replace existing culverts with HPDE culverts. Reconstruct dry-laid stone masonry drop inlets, headwalls, and stone lined ditches. Reconstruct 2 to 4 foot high stone masonry retaining walls. Install large concrete box culverts at two locations. Rehabilitate 3 small bridges. Place stones at identified lake edge areas for shore protection. Eagle Lake Carriage Road is located along Eagle Lake, which is one of the most pristine bodies of water in the Northeast, and supplies drinking water to the town of Bar Harbor, ME. The project activity must avoid any impact to the lake and water quality.
