Southwest Wanamaker Road/Southwest Huntoon Street/I-470 Ramps - 701018.00 - City of Topeka

Site work and paving for a civil project in Topeka, Kansas. Conceptual plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway. This project will improve traffic operations, safety and level of service in the SW Wanamaker Road, SW Huntoon Street, I-470/Wanamaker Exit Ramp, and I-470/Winding Road Entrance Ramp areas. The existing roadway network serving the area bounded by SW Huntoon Street, SW Urish Road, SW 17th Street, and SW Wanamaker Road is operating at or near capacity at several locations. Recent traffic impact studies for proposed developments in the area have indicated further development will cause traffic operation failures of several intersections. City staff has worked with the Kansas Department of Transportation and a consultant on a Traffic Impact Study to determine geometric and intersection improvements and access control necessary to accommodate anticipated traffic from future developments and traffic growth in the area. This project will provide recommended geometric improvements to the intersection of SW Wanamaker Road and SW Huntoon Street and along SW Wanamaker Road at the I-470 Exit Ramp and I-470/Winding Road Entrance Ramp. This area is experiencing congestion and a low level of service under existing conditions. Design is expected to start in 2019 with construction to follow in 2021-22. Citywide funding is shown in project #841017.02 for 2019 and #841060.00 for 2020 forward. As of July 12, 2022, this project is currently in the FY 2023-2032 CIP . Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction Fy 2025. A firm timeline has not been established; however, construction is scheduled for Fiscal Year 2025. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
