Description | The purpose of this upgrade is to replace the 1950's era pump station with a new, high efficiency pump station that is easier to operate and maintain. The project involves removing and replacing approximately 3400' of existing underground irrigation piping that supplies both upper and lower growing areas. Add approximately 1500' of new irrigation piping in upper Area's "J" and "K", which will help increase the Nursery's production of seedlings. The New Hampshire Division of Forest and Lands is seeking proposals from qualified contractors and irrigation specialists to design, layout and install a modern state of the art agricultural irrigation system that will provide uniform water distribution to the New Hampshire State Forest Nurserys 18+ acres of growing area. This new system will replace an existing system that has utilized steel underground mainlines, which have rusted overtime, resulting in frequent leaks, and rust flakes clogging sprinkler heads. The scope of work includes providing water to the Nurserys 11 growing areas (see attached site plan), varying from one to three acres in size. Within these growing areas, bareroot tree seedlings are grown in four-foot-wide beds with seven to twelve rows of seedlings in each bed. Irrigation shall utilize buried mainlines, above ground lateral lines and sprinklers to meet water demands and have cooling affects for the soil and young tree seedlings. The system shall be able to sufficiently supply water to an area of up to three acres at one time at the furthest point from the pump house. The process will start with a required site walk that will allow the interested parties to review the existing irrigation system layout, pipe sizing and design to understand current nursery practices. More details of growing area orientation and size can be found in the attached site plan.
