Description | The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, has a project that involves the upgrade of the lock control system at Allegheny Lock and Dam #5, Allegheny River, Armstrong County, PA. The contract generally includes removal of the existing DeviceNET lock control infrastructure and installation of a new, interlocked control system communicating through a combination of hardwiring and Ethernet/IP. The major features of the requirements are identified below: The contract specifically includes: Removal of all DeviceNET infrastructure, cabling, and devices; Removal of existing HMI’s and PC based PLC clients; Supply and installation of new HMI’s and operator controls into existing enclosures in both control shelters; Removal of existing SLC 500 processor and associated components; Supply and installation of new PLC and associated components; Programing of new PLC processor and HMI’s with modified versions of existing programs; Supply and installation of new interlock panel enclosure including hardwired interlock controls and remote PLC I/O; Removal of existing miter gate control VFD’s from MCC; Supply and installation new gate control VFD’s with Ethernet/IP communication protocol into existing MCC; Removal existing valve actuator control heads; Installation of new Government-Furnished valve actuator control heads; Installation of new communication wiring to valve actuators and miter gate control I/O; Removal existing limit switches for miter gate feedback; Installation of new limit switches for miter gate feedback; Integration of new system with existing fiber optic communication cabling; The work is to be performed using the existing valve actuator control heads stored at the project site. Disposal of electrical equipment will be required. Ferrous and all other construction waste material will be disposed of at commercially permitted facilities licensed to accept waste or recyclable materials as applicable. Construction work will occur in close proximity to waterway traffic and operating lock and dam gates. The existing lock chamber is currently operated by appointment and seasonally, mostly on weekends, from 8 am to 8 pm. |
