Design, Construction, Management and Operation of General Aviation Facility and Fixed Based Operator

Considering improvements to their General Aviation (GA) passenger experience and international GA flight processing capabilities. As identified in the Airport’s 2018 Airport Layout Plan (ALP), a new parallel runway, Runway 16R-34L, will replace existing Taxiway L, impacting GA facilities on the north side of the airfield. Subsequently the ALP proposes that GA expansion or relocation would occur on the Airport’s east side. As the gateway to the Capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Commission has recognized the need to ensure the GA facilities not only address the needs of the passengers, but also provide a world class experience reflective of the capital city. The Airport is currently updating the future airport layout drawing to reflect the shift of FBO facilities from the northeastern side of the airfield to the area encompassing the former runway 25 Runway Safety Area (RSA) located mid runway 16-34.
