Project Location : Hawkinsville Dam Hamlet of Hawkinsville, Town of Boonville Oneida County, New York Latitude 43.4932 N Longitude -75.2755 W The Hawkinsville Dam Remediation Project seeks to increase the spillway length to pass the spillway design flood (SDF) and improve the dam abutments. The project is located immediately upstream (south) of the Hawkinsville Road Bridge on the Black River in the Hamlet of Hawkinsville, Town of Boonville, Oneida County, New York. Hawkinsville Dam is a run-of-river facility consisting of a 298-foot-long concrete spillway, an abandoned concrete intake structure, and two abandoned wooden sluice gates. The elevation of the right abutment is 1,049.1 feet; the elevation of the left abutment and intake is 1,049.2 feet; and the elevation of the spillway is 1,044.1 feet. The intake structure formerly conveyed water to a 5.5- foot-diameter metal penstock for use at the excelsior mill. The intake has a metal trash rack oriented perpendicularly to the flow in the impoundment to prevent debris from entering the penstock. The penstock is severed a few feet downstream of the dam and is no longer connected to any structure. The forebay is filled, and a non-functioning gate obstructs the upstream end of the penstock. Water leaks through the fill material and gate and through the remaining penstock to the river downstream |
