Hemlock Creek Bank Stabilization in Seven Hills Phase 1

The Hemlock Creek Bank Stabilization in Seven Hills Phase 1 Project aims to address recurring recommendations from past reports for this project area to remove structures at risk, due to flooding and erosion of Hemlock Creek, and restore a riparian corridor in this stream reach. NEORSD has acted on the first part of this recommendation, and as of the end of 2020, has acquired and removed several structures along the project area evaluated in the Assessment Report. Property acquisition and structure removal is still underway to address some of the remaining flooding and erosion risks to assets. This project will address the recommendations regarding restoration of the riparian corridor, that cannot be met with acquisition and structure removal alone. This Hemlock Creek Bank Stabilization in Seven Hills Phase 1 project shall address the following restoration objectives, in a cost-effective manner: - Modify Hemlock Creek to reduce flooding and erosion risks to assets within the phase 1 project area, - Replace existing roadway crossings at Forest Overlook Drive and Donna Rae Drive and mitigate for any downstream impacts, - Increase available floodplain for Hemlock Creek within the phase 1 project area, - Re-establish a healthy riparian corridor throughout this phase 1 project area and enhance habitat within the stream channel, - Ensure proposed design will seamlessly integrate into both a future Phase 2 project upstream and the creek section downstream of the phase 1 project area.
