Description

This Project entails physical stabilization of two (2) reaches of riverbank along the South Platte River at the Prairie Water System's North Campus Well Field (Well Field). The Well Field is located on the west bank of the South Platte River approximately midway between Brighton and Fort Lupton, Colorado. Each reach of riverbank addressed under this Project is approximately 1,000 feet in length, and subsequent to construction of the Well Field has experienced riverbank erosional damage resultant from channel alignment changes due to human and/or natural causes. As the Well Field’s infrastructure is in close proximity to the riverbank, riverbank erosion poses a threat to this infrastructure and ultimately the Well Field’s ability to produce water. If unchecked, continued riverbank erosion could result in the loss of the City’s Well Field infrastructure. Under this Project the riverbank within the two (2) addressed reaches will be properly stabilized, and where appropriate the bank edges will be restored (built up) to sufficiently protect the existing Well Field infrastructure. This work will include, but not be limited to, general grading and earthwork; dewatering and erosion control; placement of mixed and buried rock riprap; placement of COIR (or equivalent) blankets; and plantings for wetland, upland, and transition zone vegetation.
