Description | The Mobile District Corps of Engineers has a need for a construction contract to “design and construct” a Nanofiltration Water Treatment Plant located in Gautier, Mississippi. The City of Gautier’s existing Ion Exchange Water Treatment Plant is located at the public works department on 3305 Vancleave Road. The treated water from this plant at times has a brown tint. The City wants to add a nanofiltration unit as a treatment alternative to the ion exchange system. Nanofiltration is a relatively new technology for potable water generation that uses a membrane filtration process to remove harmful contaminates. The Nanofiltration treatment system will consist of 4 treatment trains (1 MGD each) and will be housed within a building that will be built on the concrete parking lot near the existing ion exchange tank. The contractor will install the treatment trains, install the underground piping, construct the building enclosure and the concrete pad, construct the clean-in-place system, and install the sodium hypochlorite system (disinfection) and the electrical components necessary to run the Nanofiltration treatment trains. The Nanofiltration treatment trains are expected to remove a sufficient amount of contaminants causing the water color to be brownish at times so that water does not look dirty and the people who rely on the City’s public water system will have greater confidence in the public drinking water and not unnecessarily use alternative water sources. The City of Gautier has provided a conceptual design which will be made available “for information only”. The contractor shall be responsible for locating/verifying all utilities and making any necessary design considerations prior to design completion and construction. It is desired to leave utilities in place to the extent possible, with only minor realignments anticipated, if any. The water treatment facility is the primary wastewater treatment facility for the City of Gautier and must remain in operation during this construction. The facility may have other upgrades ongoing by contract within the facility. Space must be identified during design for material laydown, parking and office trailer that will not impede the daily facility operations or expansions and as close as feasible to the construction area. |
