Description | As of March 30, 2023, this project is still in preliminary planning. An architect firm has not been selected. A bid date for a contractor has not been established. Based off of current preliminary planning, construction on this project would not likely begin until around 2026-2027. The closed solicitation has been included below for reference. The Integrated Science Building #2 is a life sciences building that is an approximately 235,500 GSF science building that will provide research, teaching and core lab spaces with a focus on biology. This building will house departments and core labs currently in Malott and Haworth Halls. When complete the building will serve to support a diverse academic, research and teaching curriculum within the bioscience disciplines on the Lawrence campus. With the addition of a centralized vivarium (consolidating the multiple current vivariums), core labs and a physical connector to Gray-Little Hall directly adjacent, the new buildign will provide the final link in a multi-disciplinary science rich environment within the Central District of Campus. The design of this facility will create a highly collaborative environment that functions at a variety of scales and facilitates interactions between the building users, industry partners and university research group. The space will be flexible and adaptable to a variety of research types and needs. The project is included in the county’s 2023-2027 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). |
