Large Meter Vault Replacement Program

As of August 26th, 2022, project has not been awarded yet. It is expected to be awarded sometime after November 1st of this year. Performance Bond Yes Labor and Material Payment Bond Yes The Contract is to provide for the installation of, but not be limited to, the large meter vault, new meter, new water service, new water main connection, new valves by-pass piping, new valves, reconnection back to the existing water main serving the customer, sidewalk and pavement cutting and repair and site restoration, tree removal, and the demolition and/or removal of the existing water service, brick/concrete meter vault and meter. Alternatively, the Task Order could require rehabilitation of existing vaults that are found to be in serviceable/favorable rehabilitation conditions. This would call for the contractor to provide temporary bypass and perform work on the existing vault to extend the life of the vault and replace the old meter with a new meter type and renew the service line back to the main. The old large brick vault will be abandoned in place or removed, the existing meter will be salvaged and the existing service piping will be removed if the new service is installed in the same trench as the existing service. The existing tee and valve on the water main will be removed and replaced with a new section of water main or a flange cap will be installed on the tee after removing the valve. Each Task Order may typically include between one (1) to five (5) large meter vault and meter replacements to be completed. WSSC will bundle the large meter vault and meter replacements in somewhat close proximity to each other whenever possible. The replacement of the large meter vaults and meters for Montgomery County and Prince George's County School sites will be bundled together and will require the Contractor to replace the large meter vaults and meters only during the months of June to August when school is out of session. This construction restriction is so that heavy construction equipment for the installation of the vault and piping and the abandonment of the old brick vault and piping do not interfere with school access and safety.
