Union Street Dam Improvements - 168-19-CIP - City of Traverse City

The goal of FishPass is to provide bi-directional movement of native and desirable fishes while removing or blocking invasive fishes on the Boardman River, Michigan. As part of the ongoing Boardman River Restoration Project, the Union Street Dam will be removed and replaced with a new and improved barrier. Below the barrier, a facility with multiple sorting channels and nature-like channel will be constructed as a place to demonstrate an integrated suite of technologies and techniques for selective fish passage and invasive species control. The project consists of a 1,481 square foot building with an office, fabrication room and public bathrooms is planned in the vicinity where a small cement block building currently exists. There are plans for connecting walks to adjacent parks and properties along with other features shown in the attached report. Approved by the Planning Commission for consistency with Master Plan on 1/3/17. As of June 13, 2023, this project is included City of Traverse City FY 2021-2026 CIP. This project is currently on hold. Information regarding design firm and general contractor selection or method of selection has not been disclosed. A firm construction timeline has not been released. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
