Description | The Highland Park Middle School two phase project will begin construction June 12, 2023, and continue through August 16, 2024 to improve the building's ventilation system. Existing classroom unit ventilators and finned tube radiation, throughout the three-story classroom tower, will be removed and replaced with an overhead dedicated outdoor air system and new finned tube radiation. Existing building structure will be reinforced to support the three mechanical rooftop units providing fresh air to the building. Ventilation will be distributed through duct mains and branches installed within the building ceiling space. These ceilings will be demolished and replaced at their current elevation. New lighting will be installed at the new ceiling locations. Lighting and ventilation controls will be updated with the installation of equipment. B. The three-story classroom tower is currently heated by steam fed from the buildings heating plant. All existing steam fed equipment will be removed and replaced with hot water heating elements. To support this, a steam to hot water heat exchanger system will be implemented, and distribution piping installed throughout. Finned tube radiation has been designed to meet the heating demand of the building the spaces in which it is served. Architectural revisions to casework have been specified to support the mechanical design and meet the building requirements. Variable air volume boxes with reheat coils are proposed for space control and heating redundancy. At the end of the project, all steam and pneumatic equipment will be replaced by hot water and DDC systems. |
