There are two (2) generators at the Water Reclamation Plant and four (4) at the Pump Stations. CSD also has six (6) Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) that need maintenance once a year. There are two (2) ATS units at the Water Reclamation Plant and four (4) at the Pump Stations. A. Battery and Battery Charger: 1. Clean all battery terminals and verify integrity of cables and connections. 2. Load test batteries. 3. Measure specific gravity of each battery cell. 4. Inspect battery electrolyte level and add fluid if necessary. 5. Verify proper operation and float voltage of external battery charger. B. Engine: 1. Check engine oil level. 2. Inspect air intake system including air filter condition, crankcase breather and turbocharger. 3. Inspect muffler system and drain condensation trap and verify rain cap operation. 4. Inspect engine starting system, verify cable integrity and connections. 5. Start/warm up engine. 6. Verify and record engine oil pressure and water temperature. 7. Verify and record engine RPM. 8. Test all safety shutdown circuits and alarms including over speed, over crank, low oil pressure, high water temperature. 9. Check for abnormal engine vibration or noise. 10. Record alternator charge rate and general condition. C. Fuel System: 1. Inspect all fuel lines and hoses for leaks and general condition. 2. Inspect fuel pump for leaks. 3. Verify proper operation of governor, and governor linkage. 4. Drain water and sediment from fuel filters. 5. Verify proper fuel pressure. D. Coolant System: 1. Check coolant level and add as necessary. 2. Inspect all coolant clamps, verify condition of hoses, and identify any leaks. 3. Check radiator cap. 4. Verify proper operation of engine water jacket water heater. 5. Inspect belt condition and tension, correct if required. 6. Inspect radiator core for visual blockage or obstruction. 7. Inspect for proper operation of intake louvers. E. Controls: 1. Verify and record output voltage and adjust voltage regulator as necessary. 2. Verify and record output frequency and adjust governor as necessary. 3. Verify operation of all lamps on control panel. 4. Inspect controls for any loose connections, terminals, or discoloration. F. Generator: 1. Inspect and lubricate generator end bell bearing. 2. Inspect generator brushes, brush holders and commutator. 3. Inspect for abnormal generator vibration. 4. Verify generator connections and insulation conditions. 5. Verify proper operation of shunt trip on mainline circuit breaker. G. Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS): 1. Verify proper operation of ATS exerciser clock, adjust if necessary. 2. Visually inspect all ATS contacts and connection points for signs of arcing.
