GT Campus Recreation Center Chiller Replacement

1. This project is for the replacement of the centrifugal chiller serving the CRC building’s cooling needs. The replacement equipment will be a multi-compressor centrifugal chiller sized at 730 tons. The five compressor selection is sized to meet both the peak loading during summer events where the swim/dive auditorium is fully occupied as well as the minimum loads in the off-season. Primary pumps and associated piping will also be replaced. The chiller equipment pad as well as the slab below will be replaced with an isolated equipment pad for the new chiller. Refrigerant safety devices, alarming and signage will be replaced. 2. The Contractor will Provide a 500 ton air-cooled rental chiller for the duration of construction and all necessary temporary hoses, valves, power connections, etc necessary to maintain cooling during the winter months. This chiller will be located in parking spots adjacent to the chiller plant. 3. The CRC Chiller Plant will need to operate during construction. The contractor shall provide temporary piping during construction to allow an owner-provided air-cooled chiller to serve the facility during construction. Careful consideration shall be made with respect to installation sequencing and equipment outages. Refer to section 011001 – Project Phasing for additional phasing restrictions.
