Tree Planting at Cowbane Natural Area Preserve

Coordination, labor and supervision of planting hardwood seedlings, installing tree shelters and stakes at Cowbane Prairie Natural Area Preserve (CPNAP) in Augusta County Virginia. CPNAP is owned and managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). The South River bisects the preserve, which is currently being restored to native grasslands and woodlands using prescribed fire, invasive species control and tree planting. Planted tree seedlings will provide a forested buffer for unique examples of wet prairies, mesic prairies and calcareous spring marshes which were once common natural communities in the Shenandoah Valley. The 3.5 =/- acre planting area is near the intersections of Route 656 and State Route 1063 in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. All planting and tree shelter installation shall be completed no later than April 15, 2022.
