Description | This project improves Chouteau Parkway from N Cleveland Avenue to the north side of I-35. The project will add intersection improvements at N Cleveland Avenue, an additional northbound throughlane underneath I-35, and a ten foot wide, multi-purpose path which will connect the Chouteau Parkway bicycle and pedestrian facilities to the recently completed Lakewood Greenway Trail. The project will replace original traffic signals along the corridor. The project has a $500,000 federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant, a $475,000 federal Transportation Alternatives Program grant, and $950,000 of MoDOT cost-share funds which will be leveraged. The City has invested in improvements to Chouteau Parkway and the development of the Chouteau Crossings shopping center. With job growth and North Kansas City Hospital, Cerner, and the Northeast Industrial District, the N Cleveland Avenue intersection experiences congestion and delay which impacts the economic activity of the area. The improvements will improve traffic flow and eliminate an unsafe situation for bicyclists and pedestrians seeking to access jobs in the area. As of May 1, 2020, this project is included in the City of Kansas City 2020-2024 CIP. Information regarding a design team and a general contractor is not available. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2020 and be completed in fall 2021. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available. |
