Doheny Ocean Desalination Plant - South Coast Water District

Conceptual plans call for the construction of a desalination plant that would use slant wells to extract water from underneath the ocean floor at Doheny State Beach. The facility would sit on 30 acres of district-owned property near San Juan Creek. The district is currently examining alternatives for a facility that produces 3, 5 and 15 million gallons of water per day. The final costs of this project will be announced at a later date. The district has not decided if they will pursue a public-private partnership. Per the owner, as of November 9, 2022, they do not have an established timeline for when construction will begin. The owner states that the board of directors has not provided approval to proceed with the project at this time. The owner states tht are pursuing a progressive design-build delivery approach for this project. The owner states that a request for qualifications could possibly go out in early 2023 if the board approves moving forward with this project.
