Description The bridge will be 51'8" in length from fill face to fill face and will be approximately 8' clear from railing to railing. The bridge will be a single span and the abutments will need to account for the variance in height from bank to bank. Rip rap is shown on the plans but will not be used on this project. Any bank disturbed will be reshaped, stabilized with erosion control matting, and replanted with live stakes set 3' apart. Live stakes will be a mixture of Common Elderberry, Atlantic Ninebark, and Silky Dogwood. The existing crossing of the creek will be removed and stabilized as part of this project. The approaches to the bridge will be a maximum of 10% slope and will tie into the existing trail. Any proposed reroute to the trail must be approved by Burke County. The approach roadway will be built to 8' clear to match the clear width of the bridge. The approach retaining wall will only be one course below ground level and hand rails will not be used on the approach ramps. Instead, slope dirt away from retaining wall at 16" below top grade at a 2:1 slope and all material used will be compacted. The leveling pad and perforated pipe will be removed from the project as well.
