One of the top defense contractors on the First Coast has received a $63.9 million contract for a construction project in Georgia. Sauer Construction LLC was awarded the firm-fixed-price contract for design and construction of a non-standard battalion operations facility at Fort Benning, Georgia. Four companies were vying for the job, which will be done over the next two years. The Army Corps of Engineers in Savannah is responsible for the contract. Sauer is one of the most successful defense contractors on the First Coast, with a number of major projects stretching across the Southeast and mid-Atlantic. Other projects won this year include work at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejune, construct a flight line support facility at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina, and a number of projects at Naval Air Station Pensacola. Since fiscal year 2012, the company has had more than 100 contracts awarded, according to a federal database, with a total obligation topping $1.26 billion.
