Description

Renovate the former timber wolf exhibit and convert it into a mountain lion exhibit. The work will include some modifications to the interior walls and cages of the existing indoor enclosure, updates to the exterior enclosure landscaping, fencing, viewing platforms/structures. The final design shall meet all state and federal captive wildlife enclosure requirements as well as industry best practices incorporating natural elements that provide mountain lions appropriate shade and enrichment. Consultant shall have experience with and/or be prepared to source the required standards to guide the design and construction process. The City of Manitowoc is accepting bid proposals for the design and construction of new Mountain Lion enclosure at the Manitowoc Lincoln Park Zoo. Design and Construction Bid proposals are not to exceed $300,000 and shall consist of schematic design, budgetary cost estimates, and all other items outlined in Proposal Requirements. The City requires that all companies submitting a bid proposal are Design/Build companies that demonstrate a competent knowledge of captive wildlife enclosure construction. The scope of work, as described in the proposal, will include; Schematic Design, Budgetary Cost Estimates, Final Design Development, Construction Drawings, and Construction Phase Services. All work included in this Contract shall be performed according to the approved plans, specifications, commercial building code and to the satisfaction of the City. The Contractor shall perform design and construction of mountain lion exhibit at Manitowoc Lincoln Park Zoo. The intent of this project is to renovate the former timber wolf exhibit and convert it into a Mountain Lion exhibit. The existing facilities of the former timber wolf exhibit include a 16’ x 46’ multi-stall concrete block housing structure and a 60’x 63’x 35’x 90’ chain link fence outdoor enclosure. The project includes renovation of existing exhibit structures along with potential installation of new features such as an overhead mesh/chain link roof to ensure enclosure security, a pole-based shade structure within enclosure, viewing platform roofing. All of the project components included in the final design shall be determined through a value engineering process during the final design phase based on feasibility and budgetary compatibility. The new enclosure shall be designed to meet all captive wildlife state and federal guidelines along with Zoo industry best practices.
