Description | This partnering project with ARDOT includes the complete rehabilitation of the approximately four mile section of Towson Avenue (Hwy 71B) between Garrison Avenue (Hwy 64) and Zero Street (Hwy 255). The project will include upgrading of the drainage system to current standards, replacement of the curb/guttering and driveway approaches, installation of sidewalks and pavement improvements to the street surface. The city's share will be 16% of the project costs, up to a maximum amount of $2.0 million. Upon completion of the work, this section of Hwy 71 B (Towson Avenue) will be removed from ARDOT's highway system and will become a city street. The project has been delayed due to the relocations of water transmission and distribution lines. ARDOT estimates the street project will bid for construction in late 2023. This project is currently in the City of Fort Smith's FY 2022-2026 CIP. Per the city, as of November 1, 2022, this project is being handled by ARDOT District 4. Information regarding a design team is not available. The project is anticipated to bid in late 2023.
