Description

The purpose of this project is to add large woody debris to the channel of the Au Sable River to enhance in-stream habitat. The objective is to place and anchor approximately 205 trees of various species at 59 specified sites. At each site, trees will be cut so as to fall into the river. Cut trees will be anchored by using hinge cuts and/or natural wood anchor posts. Felling must be accomplished between the Tuesday after Labor Day and April 15th due to cutting restrictions. Trees will be cut along both banks of the river. 2. The work will require hand and/or portable power equipment to accomplish felling and placing of trees in the river along the river banks. No heavy equipment/machinery will be allowed in the river or on the banks. 3. The Contract Implementation period is the time period for the completion of all bid items. a. Bid Item #1: Felling approximately 205 trees using hand and/or portable power equipment will start September 7, 2021 and must be completed by April 14, 2022 (148 business days). b. Bid Item #2: Place and anchor the cut trees in the river along the river banks using natural wood anchors during the same time frame listed above and performed by the same contractor.
