Roadway and Bridge Reconstruction

The project provides for the staged full depth roadway reconstruction and widening of the Pennsylvania Turnpike from 2 lanes in each direction to 3 lanes in each direction and the replacement of 3 mainline bridges. The project includes the removal of 2 single span multi-beam bridges and one 3 span continuous steel multi-girder bridge. The project requires construction of one 3 span continuous composite steel multi-girder bridge, one single span composite steel multi-beam bridge, and one single span composite pre-stressed spread box beam bridge. Additional construction includes 4 retaining walls, 9 sound barrier walls, 9 sign structures and 2 arch culvert extensions. The contract also provides signing and pavement marking, ramps to the Valley Forge Service Plaza, milling and overlaying portions of the Turnpike and side roads, as well as 6 aboveground stormwater basins and other drainage modifications.
