Old Conservatory West Wing Roof Restoration and Replacement

The project is “The Old Conservatory West Wing”, which includes 3 (Stove Room, Fern Room, Orchid Room) of thirteen glasshouse exhibition halls at Phipps Conservatory’s historical structures. The project involves removal of the existing wood and glass roof glazing, re-glazing of the roof structure, cleaning and painting of the interior structural steel framework and exterior gutters and sills including minor repairs to the cast iron gutter system. The new glazing system will consist of new replicated aluminum glazing rafters with new lapped glass glazing. The glazing material will be clear laminated safety glass of a minimum allowable thickness installed with 3/8” laps using stamped or extruded aluminum bar caps. All sheet metal trim, flashings, condensation drip leaders and all miscellaneous metal components will be replaced with aluminum or stainless steel material to match the originals as closely as possible. Provide and install 16 mesh metallic (aluminum, copper, stainless steel) insect screening for sidewall and ridge openings (Stove Room, Fern Room, Orchid Room).
