Description | During the North Eagleville Road Phase IIIB project, a new section of direct buried steam pipe was scheduled to be installed from existing vault E-5 to a section of piping that was installed under a previous project. Prior making the final connections, a pressure test was performed to determine if the existing steam lines were in serviceable condition. The existing piping failed the pressure test resulting in suspicion that there may be a breach in an outer conduit. A subsequent tracer gas test was performed on the piping system from existing vault E-5 to existing vault B-6. The results of the tracer gas test indicated potential leaks in the existing piping at several locations. To address the leaks, the NER IIIA engineer of record proposed initial repairs at specific joints. UPDC proceeded with the initial repairs through the NER IIIB construction manager and during the course of executing the initial repairs, the design and construction team determined that the condition of the steam line in question was more problematic than what they initially suspected and that more extensive research and testing was needed to make informed recommendations. After further investigation, the project engineer of record proposed immediate repairs to steam infrastructure in the area of vault B6 to alleviate issues with standing water. Scope of Work includes providing civil sitework, sanitary, and electrical scope to facilitate the installation of a new concrete steam vault dewatering pump chamber. Included in the scope is the installation of approximately 130 lf of sanitary force main which will connect to an existing sanitary manhole Liquidated Damages of Five Hundred ($500) Dollars per calendar day shall be assessed if the Contractor fails to achieve Substantial Completion, Q&A (RFI) Due Date and Time February 10, 2021 2:00 p.m. The University reserves the right to reject any or all Bids, in whole or in part, to award any item, group of items, or total bid; and to waive any informality or technical defects; if it is deemed to be in the best interest of the University.
