Description

1. Mowing: Mowing should consist of 2-3 times per week depending on the time of the year for a minimum of 72 mowings per year. Mowing of the field needs to be completed with a reel type mower to a height no higher than 1”. Make sure the grass is blown completely off the track after mowing and away from the drain. Excessive clippings resulting from growth rates or that remain as clumps shall be removed from field grass areas, the track, and the drainage on the track. 2. Fertilization: Field needs to be fertilized in accordance with Maryland Fertilizer regulations starting in April with a total nitrogen application of 6-8lbs per thousand sq.ft. Summer fertilization is going to be important with an average application of .5lbs per thousand sq.ft every 3-4 weeks throughout the summer 3. Aeration: Aeration will consist of 6 aerations of differing varieties from shallow cores to slicing tines. The Bermuda field will need to also be dethatched 2 times per year during the active growing season (summer). 4. Overseeding: The Bermuda field will need to be overseeded with a total of 2000lbs of seed for the year starting in September. This should be done in 3-4 applications of seed. 5. Weed Control: Apply a pre-emergent herbicide in April. Also needs to have 2 post emergent weed controls for the summer months (Ronstar for pre-emergent, several chemical types of post emergent). There needs to be an application in late May to remove the perennial ryegrass that has been seeded into the field. (i.e. Revolver Application). 6. Insecticide: Apply an insecticide to the field in late May, early June to help control grubs and other insects on the field. 7. Fungicide: Apply a late fall fungicide application to help reduce snow mold or other winter diseases that affect Bermuda grass. 8. Topdressing: Grass clippings should be cleared from the track prior to topdressing. Field will be top-dressed a minimum of 3 times with USGA spec topdressing sand. Each topdressing application should consist of 20 tons of sand per application. Must arrange the timing of top dressing with the Athletics Facility Manager.
