Description

As of February 23, 2023, this project is already under construction and construction manger is currently issuig subcontracts and purchase orders. As of October 3, 2022, a design builder has been selected. Construction is anticipated to began in January of 2023. *The previous solicitation is listed below for reference The project scope for this Design-Build project consists of, but is not limited to, the design and construction of a new four story stand-alone building for the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) of the College of Engineering, and will be located southwest of Howe Hall and north of the Thielen Student Health Center. This new facility will provide space for teaching and research labs, classrooms, office space, and shell space to accommodate future growth. The new building will improve the quality and quantity of space for the IMSE Department supporting the following areas of study: Operations Research and Analytics, Advanced Manufacturing, Human Factors and Ergonomics, and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management. Project goals for the building include, but are not limited to: • Provide a dynamic system of spaces that integrates teaching, learning, and research in an innovative academic facility • Create an inviting and inclusive environment that encourages collaboration among students, faculty, staff, and industry partners while enhancing the sense of community for IMSE • Create a facility for IMSE and the College of Engineering that fosters current program needs yet is adaptable, flexible, and resilient to evolve as the challenges of industry partners, curriculum, pedagogies, and research advances The distribution of space provides each IMSE discipline with dedicated research/teaching lab space. Active learning classrooms are to provide IMSE access to new century learning environments while supplementing the Iowa State University inventory. Study and common space are to promote a community of life-long learners. The office spaces include growth in faculty and PhD/Grad Student workspace through the year 2030. Bridging documentation will define form and image in schematic iterations. Documentation will include building siting, volume, open and closed wall areas, and a general architectural aesthetic to allow DesignBuild teams to explore design opportunities in skin development, structural systems, and mechanical/electrical design. Material selections will be provided to define performance parameters for Design-Build teams to further develop. The project includes aesthetic goals which will become a showcase in both form and function. Selections will be founded in durability, maintainability, and those being suited for specific programmatic needs. The project has a LEED BD+C v4 Certification minimum requirement of Silver with a goal of Gold. Current project funding is projected to support the building inclusive of shell space, with the potential for future finish of the shell space. The amount of the Design-Builder’s scope of work, including construction costs, design services and construction services is estimated at $32M - $35M. *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.
