Description

The project proposes to improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity between the downtown, the regional trails and the future Herndon Silver Line Metrorail Station. Improvements include curb and gutter, I I -foot wide travel lanes, on and offroad bike lanes in each direction, 5-foot wide sidewalks, ADA compliant crosswalks and curb ramps, traffic signalization at Alabama Drive, street lighting, closed stormwater system and stormwater management facilities, and water utility relocation. Overhead utility poles along Van Buren Street will be relocated to accommodate the proposed improvements. The project is divided into two phases that are to be constructed simultaneously: Phase I extends approximately 0.25 miles from the Herndon Parkway intersection to the Alabama Drive intersection (Sta. 10+77 to Sta. 23+00). Phase II extends approximately 0.32 miles from the east end of the Alabama Drive intersection to the Spring Street intersection (Sta. 23+00 to Sta. 39+74).
