Description

The Town of Bristol is requesting proposals for project management services for engineering, design, bidding, and construction for a steep street slope realignment, retaining wall repair or replacement, bank stabilization, sidewalk replacement, and stormwater improvement project. It is funded in part by the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) through the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) Municipal Assistance Section (MAS) Transportation Alternatives Program grant, through the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development Downtown Transportation Fund grant and Clean Water Initiatives grant, and the Town of Bristol. Questions Contact Town Administrator Valerie Capels at (802) 453-2410 or townadmin@bristolvt.org. The Town of Bristol is an equal opportunity provider and employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, religion, gender, or familial status. This project includes reconstruction of the streetscape and storm drain system along Main Street to address the chronic erosion. This will include subsurface exploration of the slope, including dye testing of the existing surface drainage. It also includes the re-alignment of the Basin Street / Main Street intersection approximately 30 feet west of the existing location to add enough length to the road to provide a car length's landing at its intersection with Main Street. A slight curvature would be introduced to Basin Street to accomplish this, and the road would remain in its existing alignment, but the excessive grade would be reduced. A uniform cross section along Main Street would be provided, including a guard rail, sidewalk, green strip, curb, and parking lane. The western retaining wall along Basin Street must be replaced; the eastern retaining wall will need to be analyzed to determine it can be rehabilitated or whether it should be replaced. The project will also include acquisition of the vacant property, which is privately owned. It also includes installation of a drywell, and/or check dams, or some other best management practice further down on Basin Street in the drainage swale to address stormwater management concerns.
