Description

Wisconsin High-field Axisymmetric Magnetic experiment (WHAM) for experimental research of magnetic mirrors as fusion devices. We will obtain a surplus 5 ft diameter x 15ft long vacuum chamber from Los Alamos National Labs (LANL) which we would like split into two functional vacuum chambers. The resultant two chambers become the end cells for WHAM. These chambers will contain a high vacuum environment, and thus will need to be leak tight and clean. All new added flanges are ISO-LF type O-ring sealed. The surplus chamber was formerly housed outdoors but is believed to be in good shape. It will need to be cleaned and inspected to determine functionality. Ideally the chamber will ship directly from LANL to the vendor. The chamber will come with several flanges for blanking off to do leak checking. Any additional required flange blanks will be provided by the UW. The vendor will need to install blank flanges to seal off each chamber for leak checking. The vendor will also leak check the chamber to verify it is within specifications.
