Description | Kracker Avenue Restoration project is comprised of about 26 acres of abandoned fish farm ponds and uplands. Owned by Hillsborough County, the site is located along the eastern shore of Tampa Bay, a SWIM priority waterbody. It is immediately adjacent and northeast of Schultz Preserve. The purpose of this project is to restore, create and enhance a mosaic of freshwater wetlands, estuarine wetlands and coastal uplands within the County-owned parcel. Restoration includes: removal of all non-native vegetation, excavation and or fill of fish farm ponds, installation of weirs, a discharge structure, aquatic and upland plants and installation of outfall stabilization to restore low salinity habitats, freshwater wetland habitats and associated coastal upland. Once construction is complete three years of both aquatic and upland plant maintenance. |
