Description

This project consists of removal and disposal of one 200' x 4' wooden (creosote timbers) retaining wall and the installation of a new 228' x 4' Hilfiker Spiralnail wiretruss wall system. Tacoma Water will provide the Hilfiker Spiralnail wiretruss wall materials and the hammer required for driving the spiralnails. Bidder will provide all labor and equipment to install the wall system and connect the hammer to bidders equipment. Estimate: $36,428.00 Each bid for construction must be accompanied either by a certified or cashier's check for 5 percent of the total amount bid, including tax, payable to the City Treasurer, or an approved bid bond, by a surety company authorized to do business in the State of Washington, for 5 percent of the total amount bid. The person legally authorized to sign the bid must sign all bid bonds. The approved bid bond form attached to these Specifications should be used: no substantial variations from the language thereof will be accepted. The check of the successful Respondent will be returned after award of the Contract, acceptance of the Payment and Performance Bond and City's receipt of the signed Contract. The checks of all other Respondents will be returned immediately upon the award of the Contract. Bid bonds will not be returned. Please submit questions in writing to Carly Fowler via email to cfowler@cityoftacoma.org. Anticipated Award Date: 4/29/2022 Violation; liability for unpaid wages; liquidated damages. In the event of any violation of the clause set forth in paragraph (B)(1) of this section the contractor and any subcontractor responsible therefor shall be liable for the unpaid wages. In addition, such contractor and subcontractor shall be liable to the United States (in the case of work done under contract for the District of Columbia or a territory, to such District or to such territory), for liquidated damages. Such liquidated damages shall be computed with respect to each individual laborer or mechanic, including watchmen and guards, employed in violation of the clause set forth in paragraph (B)(1) of this section, in the sum of $27 for each calendar day on which such individual was required or permitted to work in excess of the standard workweek of forty hours without payment of the overtime wages required by the clause set forth in paragraph (b)(1) of this section. The City is not liable for any costs incurred by the Respondent for the preparation of materials or a proposal submitted in response to this RFB, for conducting any presentations to the City, or any other activities related to responding to this RFB, or to any subsequent requirements of the contract negotiation process Bidder shall be required to complete all work by September 15, 2022 (Expiration Date). If this project requires prevailing wages under chapter 39.12 RCW, any worker, laborer, or mechanic employed in the performance of any part of the work shall be paid not less than the applicable prevailing rate of wage. The City Council or Public Utility Board of the City of Tacoma shall be the final judge as to which is the lowest and best bid in the interest of the City of Tacoma. The City reserves the right to reject any and all bids, waive minor deviations or informalities, and if necessary, call for new bids.
