An active homebuilder in the Charlotte region appears to be targeting a site in Gaston County for a large development. At its meeting tonight, the Gastonia City Council is scheduled to hold public hearings for the annexation and zoning of a 267.4-acre site off Stagecoach Road. City documents show the site is being eyed by M/I Homes for a single-family residential project with 381 home lots. The requests went before the Gastonia Planning Commission on Aug. 4 and were unanimously recommended for approval, meeting minutes show. The city's planning staff also recommended approval for the requests. The requests would annex the site into the city and assign it a Planned Development-Revised Residential Development District zoning designation. The project site is near Highway 321. Site plans indicate that the project is called Ravenwood. M/I Homes is one of the most active homebuilders in the Charlotte region. The company came in at No. 9 on the Charlotte Business Journal's list ranking the largest single-family homebuilders in Mecklenburg County for 2021. CBJ data shows M/I Homes pulled 157 permits in the county last year.
