Replace Stair Railings

8(a) certified, Service Disable Veteran Owned, Women Owned or HUB-zoned Small Business qualified in NAICS 236220: contractor shall furnish all labor, supervision, supplies, materials, tools, equipment, transportation, and any other incidental engineering to remove existing Railings in the ATCT stair well and replace with new railings meeting NFPA 101 Fire Life Safety code at Joint Base Andrews Air Traffic Control Tower Building 1216. - proposed repairs shall comprise the following: removing the existing railings in the stairwell of the ATCT and replacing them with a new guardrail/handrail system from the basement level up to and including the 14th level of the tower. The existing handrail at the spiral stairs to the cab of the tower will also be removed and replaced with a new steel pipe handrail installed to meet current Fire Life Safety code. - Remove the existing steel railings from the stairwell in the ATCT. The paint on the existing railings is known to contain trace amounts of lead. Precautions need to be taken when cutting the railings from the existing mounts. The railings will need to be replaced in sections. All sections removed during a day’s work will be replaced by the end of the shift or temporary rails/guards installed such that no section be without guards. - New rails will be constructed of 1 1/4" STD steel pipe. - Sections of rails will be shop welded and connected in the field by mechanical means. No welding will be done in the tower.
