Description

https://www.postandcourier.com/aikenstandard/news/edgefield-county-officials-break-ground-on-new-law-enforcement-center/article_02f959a6-6ece-11ed-89c9-976c358a8c79.html Egefield County Officials broke ground Nov. 23 for the new Edgefield County Law Enforcement Center. The LEC construction now begins in earnest. The construction is expected to be about 18 months. The LEC, located off Rabbit Trail Road near Edgefield, will likely cost approximately $42 million to build and outfit. The state is contributing $18 million to the project from the plutonium settlement money, which was added at the request of the Edgefield County Legislative Delegation. The rest of the funding will come from the Capital Project Sales Tax the county's voters approved two years ago. The LEC will have a detention center, along with offices, storage and other areas for all Sheriff's Department employees, Magistrate and staff, and a Magistrate's courtroom. An animal control facility will also be co-located on the property. Construction of that facility is expected to start next month and is expected to be completed by late summer. The current Edgefield County detention center and Sheriff's Office was built in the early 1980s. The Magistrate's Office has also outgrown its facility and has never had a courtroom. Court has been held in the Magistrate's office or in County Council Chambers. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ **As of October 18, 2022, the owner rejected all bids. The Project is approximately 66,000 SF of new facilities. It will house 134 inmates with a core designed for 200. The new sheriff's office (administrative offices, 911, and support areas) and magistrates court will also be within the building. There are two pre-engineered metal buildings on the site in addition to the main building. The main building construction includes concrete and brick veneer masonry construction with steel framing, interior CMU partitions, PVC roofing, architectural casework, food service equipment, detention equipment, security electronics, and finishes typically associated with a new detention center. The project includes a kitchen, laundry, vehicle sally port, intake/booking and steel cells. Sitework includes stormwater management, sidewalks, parking lots, grading, and fencing/gates. Mechanical work includes ductwork, plumbing, sprinkler system, smoke control system, controls, and roof top units. Electrical work includes panelboards, lighting fixtures, fire alarm, emergency generator, power, technology wiring and infrastructure; and security systems (cameras, intercoms, duress, door controls, and touchscreens). Submit any questions relating to the Bidding Documents shall be directed to the architect, Moseley Architects electronically. Responses to any questions/ clarification will be in the form of addenda if required. The last day for questions/clarifications shall be placed by the end of the day at 5:00 p.m. on September 7, 2022. Edgefield County reserves the right to reject all bids, to waive informalities and technicalities, and to cancel the Bid Process at any time.
